V2 (10/22/25) - Changed the design/orientation of the keychain hole, in order to increase strength, counterbalance hanging poop bags slightly better, and be less in the way when twisting bags into the dispenser:

My favorite doggy bag dispenser is the Nite Ize Pack-A-Poo. Sadly it's either discontinued, or impossible to find outside of eBay (at least where I live in the US). So inspired by that product, I present The Packed Doggy Bag Dispenser!

PACKED WITH FEATURES:

  • Print-in-place hinged design: unlocks for easy refills, and locks with a satisfying click!
  • Twisting inner core: easily twists excess bags back into the dispenser
  • Built-in bag holder: carries your filled-up doggy bags for you!

Your dog can pull you into the bushes all they want - the dispenser won't drop their poop!

PRINTING TIPS

  • Print on a CLEAN PLATE - I'm sure you've heard this one before, but a clean plate will pretty much guarantee a successful print
  • For the dispenser, the supports should snap off pretty easily. Just be mindful when removing the smaller ones at the bottom
  • The inner core prints without any brim or supports. You may need to do a bit of cleanup, mostly between the two small round pieces that are near the knob. I use a straightened paper clip to just scrape off any loose plastic
  • When done printing, the hinges will be slightly stiff, and the inner core will fit into the dispenser a bit tight. For the hinges, be sure to gently open and close the dispenser a few times - they will quickly loosen up enough for regular use. For the core, just insert it into the dispenser and twist it around a bit, until it no longer feels tight (and be sure not to ignore the cleanup step).
  • Printing both parts on the same plate is NOT RECOMMENDED (doing so caused me several print failures)

HOW TO USE

  • Push the core into your roll of bags. If the bags are in the overhang position, the knob should be on the right side. Make sure to push the core all the way in! You want the side of the roll to make direct contact with the small round piece on the core:

  • Take the core, and place it into the right half of the dispenser (the half that has the bag holder attached to it). Make sure that the small round piece closest to the knob is inserted into the opening at the top of the dispenser:

  • Make sure to pull any loose bags towards the opening of the dispenser. Then, click the pieces shut!

  • To retract any excess bags back into the dispenser, slowly twist the knob clockwise

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • I made an effort to test these dispensers for strength and durability. When printed with PLA, they hold up very well to regular use, as well as to drop tests. The only issue worth noting is that they can sometimes pop open if they get slammed on the ground or into a wall (this is true for the actual Nite Ize Pack-A-Poo as well). But I had no other issues when using them, including on numerous long walks and jogs, with my energetic dog who loves to chase squirrels.

After a morning run. I let her pull me for a lot of it, with the filled bag hanging onto the dispenser the entire time. No issues whatsoever!

  • For the core piece:
    1. I can't confirm that it will fit into all bag rolls, though I can confirm it works with Amazon Basics, Earth Rated, and Fido brands
    2. It sometimes fails to twist excess bags back into the dispenser. To be 100% honest, I don't fully know why this happens (as it sometimes happens with my Pack-A-Poo as well). It happens more often when my bagss are rolled up poorly. If you have any similar issues, opening the dispenser and straightening out the bag roll a bit should help
  • I know it isn't that complicated of a model, but it still took a considerable amount of work. Not only because of my rudimentary skills (or lack thereof), but also because getting the mechanisms just right required numerous prints and adjustments. I believe that the dispenser is now perfectly functional, but I would appreciate any feedback!
